The 6th Foresight Conference of the Magnetic Confinement Fusion Research Federation FR-FCM/ITER took place on 27 and 28 November in the exceptional and serene setting of the Moulin de Vernègues.
A unique opportunity to bring together the French community involved in magnetic fusion research, this conference aimed to strengthen collaborations between research teams, present recent advances and explore scientific perspectives, while consolidating French involvement in major international projects such as EUROfusion and ITER.
The FR-FCM brings together 41 CNRS laboratories, universities and research units from a range of disciplines. 75 participants took part in this year’s conference.
The conference sessions covered the thematic axes of the French roadmap on fusion, aligned with the EUROfusion programme and in particular the progress of ANR, AMIDEX, ENR and TSVV projects. Topics covered included PEPR Supra Fusion, experimental platforms such as SPEKTRE and WEST, turbulence in the core and edge of the plasma (ANR PLATUN), MHD (ENR magnetic reconnection) and energetic particles, as well as modelling and associated numerical methods, the study of materials for tokamak walls (ChauCoLase – Laser Controlled Heating), plasma-wall interaction, advanced diagnostics and lastly heating and associated technologies (the CIGALE concept for injecting neutrals, AMIDEX SARDINE project).
The conference was also an opportunity to warmly thank outgoing FR-FCM Director Yannick Marandet and President Pascale Hennequin for their commitment, and to congratulate the new management team, whose appointment was officially approved at the Steering Committee meeting held the following day: Yann Camenen (CNRS/AMU) as director, Gloria Falchetto (CEA/IRFM, EUROfusion Scientific Contact Person) as deputy director, Etienne Gravier (IJL, Nancy) as president and Jerôme Bucalossi (CEA, Director of the IRFM) as vice-president.
Last but not least, the OM team, won over by the excellence of this symposium, chose the same venue for its residency, adding an unexpected touch to the event.
