On Tuesday 14 November, a delegation from the US Department of Energy (DOE) came to meet the IRFM management and visit WEST.

The DOE is the US federal department responsible for energy policy and nuclear safety.
The delegation, led by Dr Asmeret Asefaw Berhe, Director of the DOE Office of Science, and Jean-Paul Allain, Associate Director of Science for Fusion Energy Sciences at the DOE, was received by Jérôme Bucalosssi, accompanied by our US collaborators on site and their IRFM correspondents.
After lunch at the Château de Cadarache, the visit began with an overview of the WEST platform, followed by a presentation of the plasma component laboratories, specially the high heat flux test facility HADES. The visit ended with a demonstration of the Virtual Reality platform, during which Jean-Paul Allain was able to appreciate “what it feels like to be a PFC !”.
The meeting concluded with a discussion session, during which an update was given on current collaborations. The interest of WEST in the American scientific strategy was highlighted, as the DOE wishes to continue and even develop its collaborations on the IRFM platform.
