ITER Organization and CEA join forces to test the ITER divertor

A joint team for ITER divertor test in WEST has been established between IO and CEA.

The divertor is a key component for power exhaust in fusion devices. One of the WEST key mission is to test the ITER tungsten divertor performance in a tokamak environment and assess its impact on plasma performance.

The Kick Off Meeting of the Joint team took place on July 31, with participants from IO, CEA, as well as from the Domestic Agencies in charge of procuring the ITER divertor targets (F4E and JADA). This sets the basis for establishing a common R&D program, in particular in view of the WEST phase 2 operation, with a full actively cooled ITER like divertor.
