On September 22, the partners of SIFFER (Sino-French Fusion Energy centeR) celebrated together, via video, the latest deliveries of tungsten components for the new WEST divertor (PFU for plasma Facing Units) manufactured in China.
Organized by the Chinese Fusion Institute ASIPP, the ceremony brought together all SIFFER partners in front of numerous cameras to celebrate the latest deliveries of the tungsten PFU that will equip WEST divertor in the coming months.
This divertor, which is representative of the ITER divertor, will be used to test these components in preparation of ITER operation. “ The WEST tokamak - operated at Cadarache by CEA and its worldwide partners from China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea and USA - is now getting ready to enter into the operation Phase II, extending the plasma duration up to 1000 seconds to test and validatite the ITER-grade plasma facing components and prepare their operation in ITER.”, announced Jérôme Bucalossi in his speech during the inauguration.
This ceremony was also the occasion to celebrate the start of deliveries of the ITER Correction Coils, also manufactured in China.
Speakers included Jianguo LIU, Director of the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Keqiang WANG, Secretary General of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bernard BIGOT, Director General of the Iter Organization, Delong LUO, Director of ITER CHINA, Gabriele FIONI, Rector Delegate for Higher Education, research and innovation of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Jérôme BUCALOSSI Director of the CEA's Institute for Magnetic Fusion Research, Christophe POINSSOT nuclear Counsellor of French Embassy in China, and finally Xiangyang DENG, Executive Vice-Governor of Anhui Province, China.
Several thousand kilometers away from each other, the French and Chinese researchers who worked jointly on the production of these high-tech components were able to celebrate the end of the manufacturing and delivery phase together, and to look forward to the next phase of operation in the WEST Tokamak.
